Program Enhance Interfaith Harmony and Promote best Practices within the Local Community, Regardless of Language or Religion
On the 29th of October 2023, the Justice Peace Good Shepherd Sri Lanka organized a remarkable program for parents from various interreligious groups. The primary goal of this remarkable initiative was to enhance interfaith harmony and promote best practices within the local community, regardless of language or religion. The event was made possible through collaboration with World Vision Sri Lanka Wattala office, interfaith religious leaders, Seth Sarana, and the Wattala Community Police Unit. The program featured Mr. Manoj Samarasekara, Officer in charge of the Community Police Division in Colombo, as the resource person. He delivered a thought-provoking presentation, emphasizing the importance of parenting skills and the significant responsibility that comes with being a parent. The session provided valuable information to parents, inspiring them to renew their commitment to nurturing their children's future, a pressing need in today's world. Mr. Samarasekara urged parents to create a safer environment for their children and cited examples of how parents in earlier generations, devoid of modern technology and advanced knowledge, successfully improved their children's lives through unity and understanding within the family, fully meeting their children's needs. Looking ahead, the organizers plan to conduct more integrated activities and establish stronger connections with interreligious groups and the village community. This will be achieved with the support of government organizations and NGOs that prioritize people's welfare. The event saw the participation of approximately 335 individuals, including religious leaders, police officers, and other officials. As the Justice Peace Committee, we take great satisfaction in the positive impact our initiative has had on the broader village community. We aim to continue being a pillar of strength for the community at large.
