Remarkable Gathering

On the 28th of February 2024, a remarkable gathering took place at Caritas Sri Lanka, where 15 Bikkunis from Myanmar embarked on a journey to delve into the intricacies of interfaith engagement and social empowerment. Sri Lanka, a multi-national and multi-religious country, stands as a testament to the beauty of interfaith harmony, where diverse religious beliefs combine to foster societal development and unity.
Among the esteemed attendees were Sr. Deepa Fernando representing the Holy Family, and Sr. Manori, a Claretian Sister, Sr. Chrishanthi Basil of the Good Shepherd order. Each of these female religious brought with them a wealth of experience and insight into how their respective religious Congregations engage in social activities and empower society through their endeavors.
Throughout the gathering, the Bikkunis openly shared their challenges and aspirations, seeking to learn from the experiences of the Sri Lankan female Religious in order to enhance their effectiveness in promoting social justice within their own communities. The exchange of ideas and experiences proved to be an enriching experience for all involved, fostering a deeper understanding of the power of collaboration and mutual support across religious boundaries.
Central to the discussions was the recognition of the shared values and teachings inherent in each faith tradition, all of which ultimately converge on the fundamental principles of harmony, compassion, and love for one another. Indeed, the practice of interfaith dialogue emerged as a cornerstone activity in fostering understanding and building bridges between communities, serving as a catalyst for societal transformation and cohesion.
As the meeting drew to a close, it became evident that the journey towards social empowerment and justice knows no bounds of religion or creed. Instead, it is through collaboration, mutual respect, and a commitment to common humanity that lasting change can be realized, echoing the timeless wisdom that transcends the barriers of faith: to live in harmony and love one another.
