In Loving Memory of Sr. Joseph Deegan, a Beacon of Light and Inspiration in the Annals of our Congregation
"In Loving memory of Sr. Joseph Deegan, a beacon of light and inspiration in the annals of our congregation. Sister Joseph embarked on her missionary journey to Sri Lanka in the year 1947 traversing continents to serve in a land of unfamiliar customs and traditions vastly different from her native Ireland. Yet, with unwavering determination and adaptability, she seamlessly integrated herself into the vibrant tapestry of Sri Lankan life.
Throughout her tenure, Sister Joseph shouldered numerous responsibilities with grace and distinction. As a Province leader, formator, local Leader, and esteemed community member, she exemplified the essence of servant leadership. Her visionary spirit propelled her to pioneer new paths, fostering creativity and innovation in all facets of her ministry.
Sister Joseph possessed a remarkable ability to understand and honor the dignity of every individual she encountered, regardless of background or circumstance. Her expansive heart embraced all, fostering an inclusive community grounded in love and compassion. Her profound qualities not only enriched her own life but also served as a guiding light for others within our congregation.
As Sisters of the Good Shepherd, entrusted with the sacred duty of consecrated life, we are called to emulate Sister Joseph's exemplary virtues. Her legacy implores us to transcend conventional norms and embrace a mindset of continuous growth and evolution. Like her, we must summon the courage to challenge the status quo, embracing innovation as a means to fulfill our divine calling.
Sister Joseph's unwavering commitment to her baptismal vows epitomized her dedication to living a consecrated life in accordance with the teachings of our beloved Foundress, St. Mary Euphrasia, and the compassionate example set forth by Jesus, the Shepherd God. May her memory continue to inspire and guide us as we strive to follow in her footsteps, ever mindful of the profound impact one dedicated soul can have on the world."
